This breathtaking lesbian wedding was a two-day adventure featuring an amazing couple, a joyful celebration with close family and friends, and the stunning backdrop of Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

From the first time we spoke, I knew that Julie and Tassia were special. They had overcome so much just to get to where they were, and they had a wonderful plan to just focus on themselves and their love for their elopement.

Couple poses before their wedding

Many years earlier, they had planned to get married on August 1st, but then  called off the wedding and broke up. Years later they reunited, and once they recommitted to each other, they decided to keep August 1st as their wedding date as a testament to their story and the road they had traveled to get to this moment. Initially, they were just going to have photos of the wedding day, but they ultimately decided to plan an entire adventure weekend. I couldn’t have been more excited about the opportunity to spend so much time creating with them.

Pre-Wedding Photos

Elopements don’t have to just be one day! If you want to include multiple locations or activities, or just want to capture a more laid-back day before the ceremony, you can do a multi-day elopement. For Julie and Tassia, the plan was to have a more casual adventure shoot on Saturday, and an intimate elopement with close family on Sunday. When Saturday came, the weather was looking increasingly bad, so rather than a multi-stop shoot, we decided to focus on Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, which was also their ceremony site. Julie and Tassia just wanted to hang out with each other and capture the small moments of love between them, so that’s exactly what we did. Even when it started pouring, their spirits were high and we had an amazing time just running through the rain and splashing in the puddles.

Getting Ready

On Sunday, they each got ready separately with their families so they could have a first look at their wedding. Julie had written personal letters to both her mom and Tassia, and watching them read the letters was incredibly emotional. You could feel the joy radiating as they each read the words Julie had written to them.

That same feeling of joy overtook both Julie and Tassia when it came time for their first look. You can see that Tassia was completely overwhelmed with emotion to finally be marrying the love of her life.

After the ceremony, we took family photos and then spent some time together just the three of us. Then, we continued to the Garden of the Gods Resort, where they had dinner and spent more time celebrating with family.

Advice for Your Elopement

Julie and Tassia’s shared this advice for couples planning their wedding: “100% keep true to what is important to YOU and not anyone else. Not your mom, your future mother-in-law, not your family, not your best friend… YOU. It is important to plan your day in a way that will mean something to the both of you as a couple and individually. For us, doing an extremely small ceremony that was meant just for the two of us, in a place that held dear to our hearts, is what made the ceremony all that much more special. It made the entire day so meaningful, because we had so much rich history there and it was just the two of us, and our parents.”
